31 Days of Simplicity: Day 1- Gratitude

I could easily become a hoarder.

But simplicity calls.

There is a strange yet beautiful balance forming as I marry the idea of re-purposing the old, and letting some of it go.

There is a freedom in producing useful things naturally, rather than as a purchasing consumer.

I hope I can make it for 31 days on this journey.  It will be an arduous one for me, but one I will embrace.

In the last few years I have “studied” emergency preparedness, and some self-reliance tools and methods, and in it I see a beautiful thing known as  ‘simplicity’ calling out.

While the rubble of preparedness supplies left unorganized screams in opposition to uncluttered simplicity, it also begs for a clear boundary and a nice neat label or two.

I believe the first giant leap in a simpler, more self- sufficient life is a re-programming of my mind.

Since the Golden Age of Advertising, we have been carefully formed and molded into ravenous consumers.   We are sophisticated and savvy in our recognition of value and bargains and quality items that will enrich our lives through luxury and convenience, say the ad men!

I am not preaching. I have no soap box.  I like nice stuff, and enjoy the life of relative ease that I live out.

But knowing that I am promised none of that, and that it is all very temporal and fleeting, I’d like to on-purpose, SIMPLIFY.

sim·pli·fy

verb (used with object), -fied, -fy·ing.

to make less complex or complicated; make plainer or easier: to simplify a problem.

I’d like to simplify my thinking, my actions, my purchases, my collections, etc.

So, in simplifying my thoughts,

today I state: I am satisfied. I am grateful.

The more I say it, the more I will believe it.  How about you?

” I am satisfied (not lazily content, you arguers over semantics!). I am grateful.”

Go ahead…say it!

Nice. It’s an “attitude of gratitude” that I sometimes need to be reminded to embrace :)

Love your idea for 31 Days. I have to admit that I am some~what of a hoarder… as evidenced by the fact that I recycled about 300 clothes hangers yesterday. I actually found myself questioning my own sanity… why the heck did i have so many hangers in my closet?! LOL! So, I’ve joined you blog and I’ll be following along. I’m hoping to hoard some of your inspiration!

  6. I love this, Marla. I am on the same mission. Purging, organizing, praying, and breathing! Great post.
