Chickens [cruelty-free emergency food for city or country folk]

I love my chickens.  They really are amazing little contributors to our household.  And as long as I have the little amount of feed they require, they will give me fresh emergency food supply every 25 hours or so.

Just about anyone can raise chickens [not necessarily so for roosters- not all cities are super- excited about Koo-koo-roo-koo-kooing or cock-a-doodle-dooing].

Read a few articles online at: My Pet Chicken, or Back Yard Chickens, purchase a copy of Storey’s Guide to Raising Chickens by Gail Damerow, find some chickens on craigslist or local papers where someone needs to find a new home for their flock, get a bag of feed, a shallow plastic basin for water, and you are nearly a chicken farmer!

Of course- there is a bit more to it than that, but not a lot.

The resources above will pretty much guide you through the process, but I will share my experiences with you here, and hopefully pursuade you to welcome a few to your family.
